Frequently Asked Questions
Which type of tape should I choose?
The right tape depends on how much support and flexibility you need.
Kinesiology Tape is best when you want flexible support while maintaining normal movement.
Athletic Tape is designed for firmer support and more restricted movement around joints.
Rigid Strapping Tape provides the highest level of restriction when strong stabilization is needed.
Cohesive Elastic Bandage provides adjustable compression and sticks to itself rather than your skin.
Specialty tapes such as Finger Tape, Football Turf Tape, Golfer's Tape, Grip Tape and Hockey Tape are designed for specific sports and applications.
What is the difference between Copper-Infused and Synthetic Kinesiology Tape?
Both Dragon Tape options are designed to move with your body while providing flexible muscle and joint support.
Synthetic Kinesiology Tape is a high-performance option for athletes looking for strong adhesion, water resistance, breathability and extended wear during demanding training.
Copper-Infused Kinesiology Tape combines the flexible support of kinesiology tape with copper-infused material for athletes who prefer a copper-enhanced tape.
Choose Synthetic: For high-performance everyday training, sweat, water and demanding workouts.
Choose Copper-Infused: If you want flexible kinesiology support with copper-infused construction.
What is the difference between kinesiology tape and athletic tape?
The biggest difference is flexibility.
Kinesiology tape stretches and moves with your body. It is ideal when you want support without significantly limiting your range of motion.
Traditional athletic tape is much more rigid. It is commonly used around joints such as ankles and wrists when firmer stabilization and more controlled movement are desired.
Kinesiology Tape = Support + Movement
Athletic Tape = Support + Restriction
What is the difference between Athletic Tape and Rigid Strapping Tape?
Both provide stronger stabilization than kinesiology tape, but Rigid Strapping Tape is designed for applications requiring especially firm restriction.
Traditional Athletic Tape is a versatile choice for everyday sports taping, wrapping and joint support.
Rigid Strapping Tape is the better choice when the goal is maximum stabilization with very little stretch.
If you are unsure how much restriction is appropriate for an injury, consult an athletic trainer, physical therapist or other qualified professional.
What is Cohesive Elastic Bandage used for?
Cohesive Elastic Bandage provides adjustable compression and support without adhesive sticking directly to your skin.
The wrap sticks to itself, making it useful for compression, securing dressings, light joint support and general athletic or first-aid applications.
What is Pre-Wrap used for?
Pre-Wrap is a lightweight foam layer placed underneath traditional Athletic Tape or Rigid Strapping Tape.
It creates a barrier between your skin and the adhesive, which can make removal more comfortable and reduce pulling on body hair.
What is Finger Tape used for?
Finger Tape is a narrower athletic tape designed specifically for fingers and thumbs.
It is useful for weightlifting, climbing, martial arts and other sports where athletes want additional support, grip protection or protection from friction.
What is Football Turf Tape?
Football Turf Tape is designed to create a protective barrier over exposed areas of the arms and legs during play.
It is especially useful for football and other field sports where athletes may frequently slide or come into contact with artificial turf.
What is Golfer's Tape?
Golfer's Tape is designed for fingers and hands where repeated gripping may create friction.
It can be applied around high-contact areas of the fingers or thumb while maintaining the flexibility needed to grip and swing a club.
What is Grip Tape used for?
Grip Tape is intended for sports equipment rather than the body.
It can be used on handles, bars and other equipment where additional traction and grip are desired.
What is Hockey Tape used for?
Hockey Tape is a durable cloth tape designed for hockey sticks.
It can be applied to the blade or handle to improve grip, feel and equipment protection.
Are Dragon Tape kinesiology tapes water resistant?
Dragon Tape kinesiology tapes are designed for athletic environments involving sweat and moisture.
For the strongest adhesion, apply the tape to completely clean and dry skin before activity or exposure to water.
How do I make kinesiology tape stay on longer?
Proper skin preparation makes a major difference.
Apply tape to clean, completely dry skin without lotions, oils, sunscreen or sweat.
Avoid stretching the first and last portion of the tape. After application, rub the tape firmly with your hand for several seconds to help activate the adhesive.
For best results, apply the tape before your workout rather than after you have already started sweating.
Can I use different types of tape together?
Yes. Different athletic tapes can be combined depending on the application.
For example, Pre-Wrap can be placed underneath Athletic Tape or Rigid Strapping Tape.
Cohesive Bandage can also be used as an outer compression or securing layer.
Kinesiology Tape is generally applied directly to clean skin so its adhesive and elastic properties can work properly.
How tight should athletic tape be?
Tape should feel supportive without causing numbness, tingling, throbbing, unusual discoloration or loss of circulation.
If any of these symptoms occur, remove the tape immediately.
For significant injuries or applications requiring heavy restriction, have the area taped by a qualified athletic trainer or medical professional.
Can I apply kinesiology tape myself?
Many common kinesiology tape applications can be performed at home.
For more complicated injuries, post-surgical applications or situations where you are unsure about the proper taping technique, consult a qualified professional.
